Rapid prototyping machines typically read a file type called STL. This a fine mesh model composed of thousands of small triangular facets. Rapid Parts creates extremely fine resolution STL's from solid or surface data so the faceting does not interfere with part quality. Here you can see a surface model in wireframe (yellow) and shaded view. It is followed by an STL model in mesh (green) and shaded view. The STL model retains the smoothness of the original surface or solid data.

Once the STL has been created, shrinkage compensation is added to suit the final casting metal and the file is downloaded to the Thermojets.
